i had a blast sneaking my cassette recorder into the san diego fc vs minnesota united major league soccer game to record crowd sound. while audio equipment is technically not allowed, i gambled that security would not care about my entirely plastic VOR, and this proved to be true. this is the first two minutes of a full ninety plus of pretty tireless chanting by sdfc's barra.

one of the most nostalgic southern california sounds to me is crow caws. i was able to get close enough to this one to capture some of the weird guttural vocalizations they also make. (my dad updates me that this might be a raven)

every trip to joshua tree is like a treasure hunt for a new way to remember it. this was the first time i got to do field recording in this awesome place, and i even got to check out a fancy microphone to do it with. this is a fallen cholla cactus of some kind having its needles strummed like a string instrument.

my last great idea in joshua tree was to try to find some kind of resonance in a rock formation. we happened on a maybe 8ft tall rock with a hollow that looked very much like the cone of a speaker. it did not have the desired effect.
